Brad D. Smith is the President of Marshall University and Co-Founder of the Wing 2 Wing Foundation. He is the former CEO and Executive Chairman of Intuit, Inc. Much of Brad’s time spent in the business world is defined by his 19-year tenure at Intuit, Inc. Outside of Intuit, Brad also held leadership positions at ADP, Pepsi, 7-Up, and ADVO, Inc., and sat on the boards of Yahoo!, Nordstrom and Momentive (formerly Survey Monkey). Despite being best known for his business leadership, Brad’s humble upbringing as a boy from small-city Kenova, West Virginia, had the greatest impact on shaping the person he would grow to be. While he left the state after graduating from Marshall University, he always knew he would one day return home and do his part to give back to the communities that shaped him. He has kept true to this through creating programs to boost West Virginia’s economy, including the Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative and Ascend WV. Brad co-founded The Wing 2 Wing Foundation with his wife, Alys with the goal of creating economic opportunity and resources for young entrepreneurs in West Virginia. The organization’s driving purpose is to advance the great equalizers of education and entrepreneurship in regions where individuals and communities have been overlooked and underserved. In doing so, they strive to champion human dignity and unleash human potential, uplifting the state that Brad cares so deeply for. Throughout his career, Brad also remained close with his Marshall University community. In October 2021, Brad was selected as a top-five finalist for the position of Marshall’s 38th President. A few weeks later, it was announced that Brad was the Board of Governors’ unanimous choice for the job. Brad’s term as President officially began on January 1, 2022. Brad has received several accolades for his leadership, philanthropy and professional success. In 2016, he was presented with a Presidential Honorary Doctor of Business Degree by West Virginia University. He was also the 2020 recipient of Marshall University’s Distinguished Alumnus award.
