Takami Yuichi is a former Japanese parliament member, born in Kobe city of Japan. As a student at Otemon Gakuin University in Osaka, he started a recycling movement within the student community. It later grew into a national recycling movement under the Japan’s recycle civil movement association, which he led. In late 1980’s, he established his business of door-to-door parcel delivery of organic vegetables at the time when organic produce with no additives and preservatives was practically non-existent in Japan. Takami san became a billionaire for building the biggest organic food trading system in Japan, connecting 55000 households with 2500 farmers nationwide. His political career started in 1993, when he won the election as a candidate from Japan New Party. As an elected Parliament member, Takami san initiated many laws regarding environmental protection, natural disaster, non-profit organizations and social transparency. After his years in Parliament he served as a head of many organizations, such as the Japan Nature Fund, Green Marketing Association and Social Design Association. His passion for environmental protection led him to Mongolia in early 2000’s. Takami san planted more than one million trees in Mongolia to fight the desertification and climate change, for which he received several reputable honours from the Government of Mongolia. Takami san has made many positive contributions to the Mongolian government working as a chairman of the board of the University of Humanities, head of Japan – Mongolian Nature Fund, advisor to the Mongolian Government, special adviser to the Ministry of Environment of Mongolia and advisor to the President of Mongolia. One of his recent initiatives is the establishment of ‘Earth Kids’ school for treatment and education of kids with mental disabilities. Earth Kids, now operating in many cities across Japan, is mainly supported by the Government of Japan. It has now its in-house research centre for mental illnesses and treatment.
