Ken is a 1970 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School, a 1974 graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. in Computer Science, and a 1977 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a M.S. in Computer Science. While a graduate student at UT, Ken lived in Reese Hall in the Presidential Complex for a year, and was a fixture on the intramural courts & fields as both a player and an official. Ken was a graduate assistant and TA during his tenure at UT as well. After college, Ken initially worked for Telenet Corporation, where he was co-architect of one of the first successful commercial email systems. He then joined Control Video Corporation to work on downloading games to the Atari VCS in early 1980s. Out of that group, he joined several others in 1985 to co-found Quantum Computer Services, Inc., which became America Online. He retired as an “AOL Fellow” from AOL in 2007. Ken currently resides in Clifton, Virginia. He is married to Marci, and they have two daughters, Stephanie, 24 and Niki, 22. He has been a member of the Centreville United Methodist Church since 1990, and Marci is currently an associate pastor there. Ken is active in the non-profit community, serving on several boards including the Board of Governors of Wesley Theological Seminary, the Community Foundation of Northern Virginia, and United Methodist Family Services. Ken is currently head of the Middle School Volleyball program and assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach at Highland School in Warrenton, where his daughters attended. He has coached club/Junior Olympic volleyball for the past eleven years, and he also an avid golfer and snow skier.
